Lunya Flagship, Melrose Place
Los Angeles, CA
2022

The design for the Lunya Flagship Store merges the local vernacular California Modernist sensibilities of the Schindler’s House—located just up the street—bringing in the local vernacular and warmth through natural concrete and wood materials, with the dreamlike futurism of Barbarella’s spaceship as she awakens from her deep space slumber. A balance between an architectural rigor and cinematic fantasy that aligns with Lunya’s ethos as a sleepwear brand, focused on both the technology and comfort of sleepware.

At the heart of the store is a carpeted bed pit beneath a large skylight, reinforcing the central theme of rest and comfort while bathing the space in natural light. The fully carpeted fitting rooms extend this tactile experience, enveloping visitors in a soft, intimate setting. A disco bench positioned below a south-facing window transforms the entrance into a dynamic installation, casting shifting patterns of light throughout the day.

Reflective elements—including a large mirror inspired by the Struckus House windows, mirror-clad walls that expand the compact space, and chrome accents that evoke the futuristic aesthetic of the 1970s, reinforce the Barbarella-inspired dreamlike quality of the space. The result is an immersive retail environment where architecture, light, and texture work together to reimagine the act of shopping as a seamless extension of the sleep experience.
